Founded in 1956 by Jaroslav Dostalík PhD, Mladost was quick to rise to the top ranks of European choirs. Fifteen years later, Dostalík was forced to leave the choir for political reasons and Mladost ceased to exist. In 1996, some former members initially revived Mladost as a mixed choir, and it became a female-voice choir in 2010. The choir is now led by David Šmíd, who is studying to become a conductor at the Brno University of Music and Performing Arts (JAMU). Mladost showcases its broad repertoire at concerts and in choir competitions both in its home country and in other European countries.
